GROSSE POINTE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Grosse Pointe Public Schools said a noose was found in a room inside Grosse Pointe South High School.

According to the district, Turner Construction Company notified the district that they found the noose while conducting a final safety walkthrough.

The district said Turner held an open discussion on race, racism and harassment with various contractors in the past week. The discussion happened at Grosse Pointe South.

The high school is currently a construction site, and no students or staff have been at the high school for at least three weeks. The only people at the high school are construction workers.

Turner met with contractors at 11 a.m., the district said, to make it clear the site should be a place that is safe and accepting to all. The job will be closed.

The district said they believe no students or staff or thought to be involved in the incident.

"Over the past few weeks, our collective awareness regarding race and racism has been raised. Turner has proactively taken steps to discuss these issues within our company and on our project sites," the company said in a statement. "Anyone found responsible shall be removed from the site, and as appropriate, referred to local authorities for criminal prosecution."
