She's on the front lines of keeping one of Oakland County Schools ‘green’ by teaching students about the scientific impact of their choices.

Esther Spanos does just about everything at Our Shepherd Lutheran School from science to math to athletics, she’s guiding kids in and outside the classroom.

“She is just a great teacher, she’s really nice and friendly to all the students and everyone loves her she’s just really amazing,” 6th grade student Max Vollmart said.

Mrs. Spanos’ efforts won Our Shepherd the title of Official Michigan Evergreen School.

“I definitely think she’s earned this reputation and she definitely deserves,” Vollmart said.

From recycling and waste free lunch programs, reducing energy through motion detectors and growing gardens her goal is to get students excited about learning.

“To care about what they’re doing – whether it’s science, whether its sports whether it’s math, they’re passionate about something,” Spanos said.

Mrs. Spanos wants to make sure all the students can come to her with all their dreams and passions.

“She’s always talking to the students as if they’re her own friends,” Vollmart said.

In a school with students in kindergarten to 8th grade, Mrs. Spanos has an impact on them all.

“I get to spend a lot of time with the students in the classroom but what’s nice with athletics is that you get to see another side of them and you get to see them shine in some place outside the classroom,” Spanos said.

Congratulations, Mrs. Spanos!
