It’s time to figure out weekend plans.

In this week’s Around Town, there are many events to check out coming up.

Saturday is Great Ape Day and the Detroit Zoo is hosting an event to learn more about these playful primates.

Elizabeth Arbaugh is the Curator of Mammals at the zoo.

“Learn about our individual animals and we care for them and about their personalities and how they live here,” she says.

There are three gorillas and 11 chimpanzees including little baby Jane.

“Baby is thriving and doing great and the whole group has embraced her,” said Arbaugh.

Then come back Sunday morning for the Run Wild at the Zoo events with a Fun Walk, 5K and 10K to raise money for veterinary care for all the animals.

You can register online until 10pm Thursday or in person up until the race. For more info on events at the Detroit Zoo, click here

Fundraising events manager Julie Geisinger said,  “You get admission to the zoo with your race registration, we have a post race party, you get to see all of the animals.”
