Avondale School District is stepping up their security and technology.
They’ve spent $15 million from a bond.
The district says police will soon be able to monitor the buildings in the event of an emergency through new camera feeds.
They'll also be able to pick an individual on camera and follow them.
“It’s a shame that we have to live like that now, that’s our society, but I think we’ve done a good job at preparing for that,” says Superintendent Jim Schwarz.
Students and staff already learn how to fight back using the program ALICE, but police say the new upgrades will enhance their response time.
“Now we can have a set of eyes on a school 24/7 and if a critical incident did happen, we could have live and remote monitoring of that incident, play-by-play announcer essentially watching the bad guy go from room to room or classroom,” says Brian Miller, community engagement officer at the Avondale Police Department.
Officer Miller says other districts are starting to use the same type of technology.
