(WXYZ) — Beaumont Breast Care centers in metro Detroit are offering uninsured and underinsured women free mammograms.

Centers in Dearborn, Trenton and Wayne will provide free screenings year-round.

“We are delighted to offer this service to the community,” said Julie Lafata, supervisor, Beaumont Breast Care Center, Dearborn. “Generous donors to the Beaumont Health Foundation - and supporters of the annual Women’s Health Care Golf Classic - have made it possible for us to go the extra mile by also providing funding for additional imaging when screening mammograms show abnormal findings.”

Beaumont says ideally, any participant with a primary care physician would obtain a mammogram order from her primary care physician.

If a woman does not have a primary care physician, she should still contact one of the three breast care centers. She will then be referred to a Beaumont physician who will write the screening order and provide any necessary follow-up care.
