Changes are coming to the site of the Brewster-Douglass Housing Projects on Detroit's east side.
The city of Detroit partnered with billionaire Dan Gilbert for a project worth over $300 million for a new residential development. The site is off of I-75 south of Mack Avenue.
More than 900 apartment units will be available in the development, and about a quarter of them will be affordable housing units.
Construction begins next summer and leasing should start by 2021.
Five years ago, the old buildings at the site were torn down to make way for a project like this. The site was once the home of Diana Ross and The Supremes, and Joe Louis learned how to box at the recreation center there.
