(WXYZ) — Chopper 7 captured video Thursday morning of extensive flooding in metro Detroit following storms that rolled through the area.
Both directions of I-275 are closed under I-94 in Romulus due to massive freeway flooding. Video showed a car submerged in water.
It's one of several roads that are closed this morning due to flooding and car crashes.
Other closures include:
- Southbound I-75 at Eureka
- Harvey St. between Ann Arbor Trail and Penniman in Plymouth
- Joy Rd between Canton Center and Beck Rd in Plymouth Township
- Omo Road between 30 Mile Road and 31 Mile Road in Macomb County
- Haggerty Road North of W. Maple Rd is closed in both directions in West Bloomfield
On Haggerty, DTE Energy says high-voltage power poles snapped and are down across the roadway. Nearly 50,000 DTE customers are without power as of 12:05 p.m.
The flooding across communities was captured in communities including Canton, on I-275, on I-94 and near the airport.
A mobile home community in Flat Rock was also hit hard by the storms:
Residents are being advised by local officials to avoid the floodwater. Attempting to drive through the water could result in a stalled engine. You should also minimize your exposure to floodwater because it could be contaminated with chemicals and/or sewage, and have dangerous debris.
