Twin brothers charged in coney island shooting that left man critically injured

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Twin brothers have been charged in connection to a shooting at a Nicky D's Coney Island on Detroit's west side.

The shooting happened Wednesday, June 19.

Dwight and Duane Samuels, both 61 and of Detroit, have been charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm, felon in possession of firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm.

The two were arraigned in 34th District Court Sunday.

According to police, the Samuels brothers went into the coney island at 15447 W. Seven Mile Road and started to argue with other customers in the restaurant. The brothers, one of them armed with a metal pipe and the other with a gun, then attacked a 40-year-old man after they were told the restaurant didn't sell fried mushrooms.

Dwight was given a $225,000 cash bond, no 10 percent. Duane was given a $200,000 cash bond, no 10 percent.

Police say the victim was beaten with the pipe and then shot in the face. He was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

The brothers allegedly fled the scene in a car.

A preliminary hearing for the Samuels brothers was scheduled for July 11 at the 36th District Court. Watch below:
