Adoptions needed to prevent euthanizing animals

Posted

The Brownstown Animal Shelter fears it may have to euthanize animals because they are too crowded many dogs, cats and kittens.

An animal control officer says the shelter hasn't had to put down an animal in five years and hopes people will come out to adopt.

The shelter has 16 dogs, many cats and almost 50 kittens.

On Saturday, they are holding a garage sale at the animal shelter to help raise money and hope to get more animals adopted.

Then, on Sunday, in hopes of getting some of the animals adopted, shelter volunteers will take a number of them to the Rainforest Hair Salon in Brownstown Township from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from salon services that day will also go to support the shelter. The salon is located at 18412 Telegraph.

Shelter volunteers will also be accepting wet food for kittens and cats, blankets, towels, washcloths, and Kuranda beds for the dogs and cats.

Coming up on Thursday, Oct. 15, the Brownstown Animal Shelter will also be holding a fundraiser to help pay for the increased costs for veterinary care.

The fundraiser at Drinks Saloon will start at 4 p.m. Drinks Saloon is located at 19380 Allen Road, Brownstown Township.

The Brownstown Animal Shelter is located at 23700 Lillian Drive, Brownstown Township. You can reach them by calling (734)675-4008.
