CAPTURED: Dangerous prisoner back in custody after accidental release in Oakland County

A dangerous prisoner is back in custody after he was accidentally released from the Oakland County Jail on Wednesday night.

He was captured at Hubbell and Outer Drive. He was captured at Hubbell and Outer Drive. 7 Action News Reporter Aaron Baskerville talked was on the scene when the prisoner was captured and talked to him on Facebook Live. 

The Michigan Department of Corrections says Johnnie Rogers, 24, was in Oakland County's custody for a court hearing and was released around 6 p.m. instead of being handed over to the MDOC. 

We're told it was hours before anyone realized the mistake. 

Several agencies launched a search for him including the U.S. Marshals Service, Department of Corrections and Michigan State Police. 

At about 1:30 Thursday afternoon, the Michigan Department of Corrections tweeted that they would offer a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the capture of Rogers.

 

 

Rogers was convicted of assault with intent to commit murder and armed robbery out of Wayne County in 2014. He was serving a 15-year sentence.
