DETROIT (WXYZ) — In which vehicles do most car crash fatalities occur?

A recent study by iSeeCars.com, a used car search site, found occupant fatalities from car crashes are more likely to happen in some vehicle than others.

Fatalities occur two to 4 times more often in certain sports cars and small vehicles.

In Detroit, the car with the most occupant fatalities is Cadillac. It's the Kia Soul for the state of Michigan.

Listed by fatal accident rate per billion vehicle miles, these are the deadliest vehicles in Detroit:

  • Cadillac CTS at 12.7
  • Ford Fiesta at 8.8
  • GMC Terrain at 6.6
  • Volkswagen Passat at 6.4
  • Ford Mustang at 5.8

Other key findings from the study include:

  • Categorically, SUVs have the lowest fatal accident rate.
  • Subcompact cars and sports cars tie as the most represented vehicle categories with six vehicles each.
  • Common trends among vehicles with the highest fatal accident rates include a lack of safety features and poor performance in crash tests.
  • Compact and subcompact SUVs account for nine of the 10 vehicles on the list of SUVs with the highest fatal accident rates.
