Right now at least one man is in custody and police are working to find out who else was involved in a violent crime spree overnight.
It involved a carjacking, shootings, and a high speed chase that are all connected.
It started around 11:20 p.m. in the 17 thousand block of Prevost on Detroit’s west side. You can see a bullet hole in the window of a house there.
One neighbor says he saw a suspicious man as he locked up his gate.
“I realized someone was standing in the middle of the street and all of a sudden he raised a gun and started shooting at the house,” said William Gardner.
As he took cover the shots continued. His next door neighbor feared for her family.
“It was about 8 or 9 shots,” said Sheila McNeeley. “I went to make sure my son and my mom was okay.”
Police say suspects in a white minivan stole their neighbor’s 2016 gray Dodge Charger and shot him in the back. He was treated and released from the hospital. Police say suspects used his car in another crime only a half hour later when at E. 7 Mile and Andover they shot another man driving in a 2015 Ford Focus. The victim managed to drive away and call 911 for help. He is expected to survive.
Police on the lookout for that gray Charger spotted it near McNichols and Davison, tried to stop it, but it took off. A chase ended when the car crashed into the Goodyear Tire and Service Center on East Grand Blvd at Woodward. One suspect was arrested there. Police are working to figure out who else was involved in the previous crimes.
“They did a good job,” said McNeeley of Detroit Police Officers. “I wish they could catch everyone doing all this wrong because it is not right. It is not safe for us to live in neighborhoods where this type of thing is happening.”
