DETROIT (WXYZ) — A catholic priest has been temporarily restricted from public ministry after "a credible allegation" surfaced of the sexual abuse of a minor, the Archdiocese of Detroit announced Sunday.
Father Eduard Perrone, 70, is prohibited from representing himself as a priest while on restriction. He also is not allowed to wear clerical attire or to exercise any form of church ministry, according to a news release.
The allegation is from Perrone's earlier years working in ministry. Macomb County law enforcement have been investigating the allegations, and the findings were given to the Michigan Attorney General's Office.
The Archdiocese of Detroit will now proceed with its canonical, or church law, review. It was the Archdiocesan Review Board that deemed the complaint credible, which means there's a "semblance of truth."
The Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) will now review the case.
To report sexual abuse by clergy or other church representatives, contact local law enforcement or the Michigan Attorney General's Office at 844-324-3374, or send an email to aginvestigations@michigan.gov.
