(WXYZ) — February is Black History Month, a time to reflect on the past while also celebrating African Americans in our communities who are shaping the future.
Throughout the month, WXYZ-TV will be bringing you stories both on-air and online to highlight the people who contribute so much to our metropolitan Detroit community and share information on Detroit’s role in African American history.
From the first Black mayor of Eastpointe to a local teen who is considered a trailblazer in the youth mental health community to a local historian and educator dedicated to teaching people about African American history in Detroit, our stories will introduce you to some remarkable people and the work that they do to make each day a little better than the one before.
We’ve created a section on WXYZ.com where you can find all of our Black History Month coverage. Click here to explore those stories.
You can also test yourself on African American history by taking this quiz, compiled by local historian and founder of The Black Scroll Network Jamon Jordan.
On Friday, February 25, WXYZ’s Andrea Isom will host a roundtable to talk to Black men about what it's like being in their skin from the past, the present and what they see for the future. The full roundtable will air on your favorite streaming device, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, online, and on our Facebook page.
