TAYLOR, Mich. (WXYZ) — An 11-year-old boy was hit and killed by a car in Taylor on Tuesday night, according to Taylor police.
Officials say it happened near the Pond Village Apartments on Eureka Rd, between Inkster and Beech Daly. Police say the 911 call came in just after 6:30 p.m.
First responders performed life-saving measures on the child when they arrived. The boy was transported to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The boy has been identified as Jacob Robinson. His mother, Tonoya Robinson, says her son was walking to the store to get snacks and always used the nearby crosswalk, and this was the one time he didn't
She wants to see a crosswalk installed at the crossing.
The driver of the car is identified only as an older woman who stopped immediately, remained at the scene, and tried to render aid. Police say there is no indication of a crime at this point and that drugs and alcohol did not play a role in the accident.
Patrol Commander Anthony Neal told 7 News Detroit the woman did not see the boy in the road.
"The Taylor Police Department asks the community to keep the child's family, loved ones, and the officers who responded to this tragic incident in their thoughts and prayers," said Police Chief John Blair in a press release.
Police are investigating.
