(WXYZ) — Students at Ecorse High School will be heading back to school Wednesday for the first time since a brawl broke out over the weekend.

The school is now working with police to step up security.

The brawl happened over the weekend at a basketball game where police say around 20 people were involved in the fight. Due to safety concerns, the school decided to cancel classes Monday and Tuesday.

Concerned parents have been reaching out to city council members. At a city council meeting Tuesday night, members asked police to provide security for at least two future games. Police told officials the school will be hiring a school resource officer.

"It's no safety in that school at all, the boys coming into that school are actually graduates, they are grown men fighting the boys," said city council member Donald Agee, Jr.
