WXYZ DETROIT — With the Labor Day weekend upon, it’s a good time to catch up on our Community Comments.

Our Channel 7 Editorial warning drivers about the increased Michigan State Police crack down on driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs during the holiday weekend prompted these responses. Clint Westwood writes:

“I was T-boned by a texting driver. They need to charge them as impaired drivers too. They are electronically impaired. Everything should be button and knob controlled or voice controlled, not screen control.”

Wil Bunch says:

“Gives too much power to police. One could have a mental issue and some cops wouldn’t be able to distinguish that from impairment. They can’t tell a phone, wallet or hand from a gun. Now, how are they supposed to spot impairment on a 1 to 10 scale?”

Deborah Carter remarks:

“I’m always the designated driver. Some things never change. It’s okay, because I know everyone made it home safely and no one was killed by a drunk driver.“

Our Editorial on the annual Dream Cruise sparked these comments.

Greg Tullius succinctly said:

“I so wish I could be there.”

Martha Rogers:

“Watching this on TV is almost as sad and awful as watching fireworks in TV. Some things need all the senses.”

And finally, our Back-to-School editorial generated this feedback. Mary Hall-Rayford writes:

“Thanks, Mike Murri, for reiterating what most teachers express on a daily basis. Parental involvement in a child’s educational career is key to their success every school year. Reading is fundamental to success and comprehension.”

Thanks for your feedback and have a great Labor Day!
