A vigil was held at Warren Mott High School Sunday night in memory of 20-year-old Emilio Valdez.
Dive teams pulled his body from Osmun Lake in Pontiac on Thursday. Police say he had been shot multiple times.
Valdez's death is being investigated by Oakland County Sheriff's deputies as a homicide.
"I love him and miss him," said his sister Tiffany Valdez. "I don't want him to be defined by what happened to him."
Valdez was a graduate of Warren Mott High School where he played football and basketball.
He was known for his bright smile and giving spirit.
Foul play has not been ruled out.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine how Valdez died.
Police are offering a $2,000 reward for information that may help solve this case.
