(WXYZ) — Action News has learned that during the first day of the strike by the United Auto Workers Union against General Motors, word is going around some local unions that members' health care coverage is being canceled effective immediately by the company.

A spokesman for the union says this is not the case.
The union sent this letter today to the company to confirm that health care will continue through the end of this month.
A spokesman for the UAW says they will put out an official notice if and when this happens.

A GM spokesperson added this statement, "We understand strikes are difficult and disruptive to families. While on strike, hourly employees will be eligible for COBRA so their health care benefits can continue. The cost of COBRA will not be covered by the company."
