National change shortage, an unforeseen result of the pandemic

(WXYZ) — One of the pandemic's unforeseen consequences is a national shortage of change.

As the economy slowed and people become more conscious of sanitation, cash transaction also slowed. And right now businesses are struggling to deal with the lack of loose change.

Imagine there are two schools of thought on this for consumers:

1. Great! I can get rid of all of this loose change at home and help businesses out.

or...

2. There's a shortage! Time to hold on to all of this!

Or maybe you're just going cashless these days and it doesn't matter, but it does to some businesses.
