DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced he would be expanding COVID vaccine eligibility within the city to residents ages 70+, postal workers and city employees who are still working on-site.

“Just as we did with our COVID testing, we are going to expand access to vaccinations every chance we get until we are able to allow any Detroiter who wants a vaccination to get one,” Mayor Duggan said.

Vaccination appointments had started this week at the TCF Center garage in Detroit with a focus on residents 75 and older. Duggan said the goal is to get the most vulnerable populations vaccinated first.

Those now eligible to make an appointment at the TCF Center:

  • Any resident of the City of Detroit who is age 70 or older (anyone born in 1950 or earlier)
  • Good neighbors who drive 70-year-olds to TCF can also get vaccinated at same time, if they are 65 or older (born 1955 or earlier)
  • K-12 and daycare workers
  • Postal workers who live or work in Detroit
  • Employees of the City of Detroit or city-related agencies who are working from their regular job site (employees working from home are not eligible at this time)

To schedule an appointment, eligible residents can call: 313-230-0505 between 9AM and 8PM, Monday-Friday. Duggan said they have 75 operators standing by to assist.
