YPSILANTI (WXYZ) — Eastern Michigan University plans to open to in-person classes in the fall amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to a letter from University President James Smith.
The Ypsilanti campus reopening will be done under a "rigorous and systematic process," the school said, and with the input of medical professionals.
"While some factors may not be in our control, we are planning for University operations to be held in person on campus this fall including, wherever possible, classroom instruction, housing, dining, and similar activities," Smith said. "Several principles will guide this planning process."
Back in March, amid the initial breakout of the virus and subsequent lockdown of the state, EMU announced its move to online-only classes. With the curve flattening across the state, EMU is the latest university to announce plans to hold in-person classes. Central Michigan University announced in early Maythat in-person classes would be an option again beginning this fall.
