(WXYZ) — Detroit’s Big 3 Automakers and hundreds of thousands of US autoworkers will be watching the reopening of a major FCA PSA plant in Atessa, Itala that makes commercial trucks for the international market. Close to 6,000 workers are back on the job today with safety protocols in place.

There is no set timetable for US auto plants to resume production.

A flier at Ford in Dearborn says the International UAW has set May 11 as a date to start. But union sources say that’s false. No dates are set.

Some UAW members are working on a voluntary basis with salaried workers getting some plants ready to reopen.

Last week we showed you how GM is putting extensive safety measures in place in plants.

7 Action News has also obtained pictures from the FCA Jefferson North plant in Detroit showing how social distancing will mean it will take longer for workers to enter the plant while waiting for safety screening.

The Big 3 are not releasing the number of workers who have tested positive for COVID-19 or deaths.

But the UAW has compiled this list showing 26 members have died based on information compiled at local offices. This number could be low.
