(WXYZ) — COVID-19 cases across the state of Michigan have been declining over the past 19 days, state officials said in a press conference Thursday.

All areas are seeing a decline in case rate; the percentage of tests that are positive is 14%. Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun said that number has had fluctuations, but remains high.

Additionally, hospitalizations are trending downward; they have decreased in all but two regions in the state.

However, the state has also seen a slight decrease in testing, as well. Dr. Khaldun said it is "so important" that people seek a test if they feel sick or think they have been exposed.

On Monday, Whitmer and MDHHS Director Robert Gordon announced they are extending the partial shutdown of the state until Dec. 20.

The original pandemic order that was a "three-week pause" and shut down indoor dining service, in-person classes at high schools, movie theatres and more was set to expire at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.
