Spectrum Health hosted a COVID-19 briefing Wednesday afternoon, emphasizing how serious the pandemic has gotten during the current surge in cases.
Dr. Darryl Elmouchi, president of Spectrum Health West Michigan, sent a warning to West Michiganders as we inch closer to the holidays.
"We are very fearful that if big groups start getting together, the spread will go on even further," he said.
He says Spectrum hospitals will hit capacity within a few days.
Visitor restrictions have been put in place to help slow the spread of the virus.
Adult patients will not be allowed to have visitors, with exceptions for ICU, end-of-life care and very specific cases.
Spectrum Health will also be prioritizing symptomatic patients for COVID-19 testing and will not be performing tests on people solely with exposure.
