(WXYZ) — The Representative Council of the Michigan High School Athletic Association has approved delaying the start of Spring 2021 sports practices by one week.
They will not begin on March 22, while competition will begin on March 26. The decision was made to accommodate the delayed end to Winter sports, which were pushed back by a delayed start because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Spring 2020 sports were canceled because of the pandemic.
MHSAA says Winter sports will be concluding up to two weeks late this year.
MHSAA says 74% of their member high schools approved of delaying Spring sports by at least a week this year. General conditioning with an unlimited number of students is currently allowed, and other out-of-season training will be allowed to continue through March 21.
These accommodations will remain in place because the MHSAA has eliminated the preseason downtime restrictions for Spring sports this year.
