Michigan reports 4,536 new COVID-19 cases, 47 deaths over past 2 days

(WXYZ) — There are 523,618 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 13,401 total deaths, the state reported Monday.

The state reported a two-day total of 4,536 new cases and 47 additional deaths. Over the two days, Sunday and Monday, the average number of new confirmed cases is 2,268 per day.

As of Jan. 8, 415,079 people have recovered from the virus.

There have been 112 new outbreaks as of Jan. 11, the state reported. The highest number of outbreaks comes from long-term care facilities.

COVID-19 vaccinations began Monday for phase 1B in Michigan, which includes people who are 65 and up, teachers, first responders and other frontline workers.
