(WXYZ) — There are 178,180 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 7,340 deaths, the state reported Saturday.

That's up 3,792 cases and 31 deaths, the latest record-high single-day total since Oct. 24's 3,338 additional coronavirus cases.

On Thursday, state health officials tightened some coronavirus restrictions in response to the rising number of cases. The new epidemic order has added provisions to target indoor gatherings.

The state says Michigan presently has 172 cases per million people and positivity of tests has increased from about 2% to 5.5% and both indicators have been increasing for over four weeks.

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 have doubled over the last three weeks while the state death rate has increased for five consecutive weeks.

Cumulative data shows that 121,093 patients have recovered from the coronavirus (COVID-19) as of Oct. 30, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
