More than 134K Michigan residents filed for unemployment last week

(WXYZ) — More than 134,119 Michigan residents filed for unemployment last week, according to new numbers from the U.S. Department of Labor.

Overall, 4.4 million Americans filed for unemployment last week, bringing the 5-week total to 26 million.

Last week, the department reported that even though initial unemployment claims had dropped week-over-week slightly, a still staggering 5.2 million filed claims.

Michigan had the highest unemployment rate last week at 17.4 percent, with another 134,119 residents filing for unemployment.
