OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Oakland County Board of Commissioners is urging Governor Gretchen Whitmer to prioritize educators and EMS workers for receiving COVID-19 vaccinations.

The board passed a resolution on Dec. 7.

“Priority vaccination for teachers is a critical step in assuring that our children's education and social engagement remains a central focus," Commissioner Tom Kuhn said. “The unanimous support of this resolution demonstrates how extremely important prioritizing teachers for vaccination is for all of us.”

The vaccination of teachers and non-instructional staff would provide a multitude of benefits, including protecting their health as well as the children’s, addressing parent concerns about their children’s education and enhancing the emotional well-being of communities, the commissioners said.
