(WXYZ) — The State of Michigan is partnering with Meijer in COVID-19 vaccine administration efforts, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced at a press conference on Wednesday.
According to a news release from Meijer, the retailer will directly receive and administer the vaccines under the Federal Retail Pharmacy Partnership Program.
“Our stores and pharmacies have played a very important role in supporting their communities during this difficult time,” Meijer President & CEO Rick Keyes said in a press release. “We are proud to be chosen by the State of Michigan as a partner to help administer these critical vaccines and we look forward to our expanded role in helping communities throughout the Midwest defeat this pandemic.”
Meijer has 120 pharmacies throughout the state. The retailer said it plans to administer the first doses at a limited number of locations in Wayne County starting on January 18 for residents ages 65 and older.
For when more doses are eventually available, Meijer has also launched a text-based registration process for the community. To register, text COVID to the number 75049. Individuals can also go online to https://clinic.meijer.com/ [clinic.meijer.com].
