(WXYZ) — Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey tested positive for COVID-19 in December, his office confirms.
Shirkey tested positive on Dec. 23, 2020. He believes his exposure date was Dec. 19.
His office says that Shirkey's last day in Lansing prior to testing positive for the virus was Dec. 21.
He reportedly experienced a fever and was fatigued and recovered at home during quarantine.
Shirkey has been a vocal critic of Governor Gretchen Whitmer's approach to handling the COVID-19 pandemic in Michigan.
Shirkey reported his positive test result to the Senate Business Office in accordance with Senate policy.
