Craigslist is taking its personals section offline due to Congress passing H.R. 1865, an anti-online sex trafficking bill.
The bill, known as FOSTA, subjects websites to criminal and civil liability when third parties misuse online personals unlawfully.
In a statement put out Friday morning, Craigslist said any tool or service could be misused, and they can't take such risk without jeopardizing all other services.
"We are regretfully taking Craigslist personals offline," it said. "Hopefully we can bring them back some day."
"To the millions of spouses, partners, and couples who met through craigslist, we wish you every happiness!"
