SOUTHGATE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Some students in Southgate are proving that it's never too early to start giving back to your community.
The kids started their own weekly newsletter to raise money for local charities.
The children go to Creative Montessori Academy. Not only did they come up with the idea for the fund-raising newsletter, they also write and edit all of their own stories by a given deadline.
Once printed, the students sell their newsletters to family, friends and others in the Downriver communities for 25 cents each. Money raised from the students' most recent newsletter was donated to the Wyandotte Police Department and animal shelter. The $150 they earned from their first sale went to the Wyandotte Soup Kitchen.
