Crews have contained a fire that started this morning at the Detroit Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The plant is located at 9300 W. Jefferson on the city's southwest side.
We're told the fire started in the building that houses the incinerator. Fire crews say it began on a conveyor belt and spread to the fifth floor.
The Great Lakes Water Authority oversees the operation. A spokesperson says the conveyor belt was carrying human waste, so HAZMAT crews were called to the scene to decontaminate firefighters.
We're told plant operations will continue normally--and that there is no environmental or safety issue as a result of the fire.
