ROCHESTER, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Rochester Hills Fire Department extinguished a fire at Ascension Providence Hospital Rochester on Thursday morning.
According to the department, they were dispatched to the hospital around 8:45 a.m. and saw smoke coming from the second floor.
Firefighters say the fire was in an area that was closed for Thanksgiving and there were no injuries or patients in the area.
The fire suppression sprinkler system was activated and held the fire back until firefighters arrived. They called for a second alarm which brought help from Waterford, Bloomfield Township, Troy, Oakland Township, Auburn Hills and Rochester. In all, about 40 firefighters were on scene.
The department said there is major water damage to the first and second floors.
Fire doors did close to protect patient areas and they were never in any danger.
