DETROIT (WXYZ) — A family is breathing a sigh of relief after escaping a gun battle on Detroit’s west side, but they didn’t walk away unscathed.
According to police, a gun battle broke out near McNichols and Greenlawn late Wednesday night. A family driving through the area got caught in the middle, the dad driving the car ended up being shot.
He is expected to be okay following a gunshot wound to his arm.

It’s unclear what led two groups to begin shooting at one another. At last check, there had been no arrests.
Investigators say that roughly 25 shell casings were found between the two sides of the street where the shootings occurred.
