Dearborn Heights councilman, neighbor fight after vandalism caught on video

Only on 7, Dearborn Heights Councilman Ray Muscat gets into a dustup with a neighbor and it’s not the first time there have been issues with the other man.

Muscat ended the fight bloodied with punches to his face. His wife Lisa also has cell phone video she made of the neighbor shouting obscenities at her.

Dearborn Heights Police say the other neighbor was arrested on Saturday for Assault and Battery and was released this morning pending further investigation. The case will be turned over to the Wayne County Prosecutor.

On the cell phone video, you can hear the other neighbor say, “F- you Mrs. Muscat.” She responds, “Are you serious. You’re going to talk to a woman like that?”

She is still rolling as she finds her husband bloodied and says, “What did he do to you? Oh my God, Ray!”

We tried to talk to the other neighbor who is in his 20s and lives with his mother. No one answered the door for us. We are not naming the man as this investigation continues.

Muscat says he’s had several incidents of vandalism and last summer got a video surveillance system.

On Saturday, he saw on video his neighbor come over to trash his yard with newspapers and walked over to get some answers.

Instead, he got punches describing it this way, “He opened the door, I had my hand on the storm door, I put my foot inside and the haymakers started. I said to 'come outside I want to talk to you.'”  He added, “I’m afraid for my wife to let the dog out on the side of the house now.”

Muscat says justice, in this case, is not necessarily jail, it is help for a troubled person.

He says, “I’d like to see the prosecutor do something to help him. I don’t know what the law says but people like him need help.”

Other neighbors have also had issued. Some have gotten surveillance systems. Police confirm this is not the first case.
