Detroit police are investigating after a delivery driver shot and killed an alleged thief at Eastern Market late Wednesday morning.

According to police, it happened outside of a business near the intersection of Riopelle and the Fisher Service Dr.

We're told three trucks were delivering meat to a business at Eastern Market. One of the employees came out of the business and saw two men in the back of the truck trying to steal meat. They ended up in a scuffle.

A driver of one of the trucks then saw the employee and suspects in the scuffle, pulled out his gun and police say believed one of the suspect's had pulled a weapon. The driver then fired one shot, killing one of the suspects.

The employee who was involved in the scuffle was also shot. We're told the suspect who was killed did have a box cutter on him.

Police say the person who fired the shot is in custody and they have recovered the weapon. The second suspect involved in the alleged theft fled the scene.

Police say that they are still investigating and plan to put a case together to submit to the Wayne County Prosecutor who will then decide if there will be charges.

According to police, the trucking company is based out of Ypsilanti.
