DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit is considering a move that would cut the parking fine rate in half for residents who pay within the first five days of getting a ticket.

The move would lower the cost of a typical parking fine to $22.50. Non-residents would still pay $45.

The move is being recommended by Detroit Council President Brenda Jones. She tells 7 Action News she has the backing of the entire city council.

A public hearing is scheduled for discussion at 10 a.m. this Monday in city council chambers. We plan to live stream the event.
