DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police have seized several ATVs and dirt bikes in a raid on the city's east side Tuesday night.
The raid occurred on Beaconsfield Street and Harper Avenue.
"These vehicles are not designed for the city streets," said Commander Darin Szilagy with the Detroit Police Department.
Szilagy says that Harper Avenue is a popular spot for off-road riding with the seized vehicles. For a period of time, officers surveilled the area before taking action when the vehicles became stationary, he said.
"There are proper places to operate these vehicles," Szilagy said, before saying that it's better to go to those areas outside of the city to avoid hefty fines.
Police did not immediately release the number of ATVs and dirt bikes that were seized.
