DETROIT (WXYZ) — A Detroit fire truck collided with a Lincoln Navigator Wednesday evening, causing it to crash into another vehicle and plow into a gas station pump on the city's east side.
The driver of the Lincoln Navigator lost control and hit a pole after running into the fire truck. Fortunately, there were no major injuries.
Three firefighters and four civilians were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to fire officials.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
The Detroit Fire Department released the below statement regarding the crash.
"The Detroit Fire Department is grateful that none of the civilians nor fire personnel were seriously injured in the accident that occurred March 31, 2021. Engine 56 was responding to a Code 1 automobile accident with victims trapped.
Engine 56 utilized lights and sirens per department policy. The DFD has followed all department protocols pertaining to post accident actions.
The incident remains under investigation. The department is aware of a previous accident at the same intersection. A report will be forwarded to traffic and engineering for review."
