DETROIT (WXYZ) — A Detroit firefighter has been suspended pending an investigation after he hit an unoccupied vehicle while responding to an emergency call.

The incident happened Sunday night. Firefighters were attending a dinner party at Engine 50 on Houston and Whittier when Squad 6 had to respond to an emergency call, according to Fire Commissioner Eric Jones.

While heading to the location, the fire truck hit an empty vehicle in the area.

It's protocol for the driver to take a drug and alcohol test following an accident, which confirmed that the driver was over the legal limit for alcohol. The driver was suspended from duty.

The investigation is ongoing.
