DETROIT (WXYZ) — In an effort to get more vulnerable Detroit residents vaccinated, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is opening up vaccine eligibility to 'Good Neighbors' who are 55+, whether they are a city resident or not.
Duggan said people 55+ can book an appointment to get vaccinated as long as they take a Detroit resident who is 60+ to get vaccinated at the same time.

"More than 80% of the people who have died are over the age of 60, we have to get our elders vaccinated," said Duggan.

Duggan said the support from a companion is a huge part of what older people need in order to feel comfortable to get vaccinated.
People will book both appointments when they call.
"To anybody who is in the suburbs who is 55 or older who wants the vaccine, it's really simple, call somebody you know in Detroit who is over the age of 60," said Duggan.
He also said people could encourage their friends to be matchmakers and pair them with someone from the city who is 60 or older.
