It’s officially mitten season in Michigan, and lots of folks are trading in the AC for the heat.
One Detroit mom and her daughter have been freezing for weeks with no working furnace in the home she is renting at all.
When the temperatures started to drop, that’s when the problem was discovered.
Shequila Cooper called the property management company where she was told the owner is claiming to have no money to fix her furnace.
"And said me and my daughter is without a furnace and its cold in this house," she says she told them.
When asked how long she’s been without a working furnace, Cooper said “30 days. Now, I’m really fed up.”
They have been using space heaters, blankets and cardboard to try to keep warm.
Cooper prides herself on being a good tenant and paying her rent, all she expects is quality service in return.
The good news is the Royal Rose Property Management Company located in Birmingham is willing to work with her and help her find a new, safer place within her price range.
