A mother has been charged with two counts of second-degree child abuse after her children were found alone in a motel room on Tuesday.
Michele Penick, 24, is accused of leaving them in a motel in the 20000 block of James Couzen near 8 Mile and Greenfield.
While Detroit police officers were investigating a shooting that occurred in front of the hotel, they observed a bullet hole in the window of a motel room.
When officers did a well-being check of the room, the children were discovered unsupervised. One of the kids was in a crib and the other on a bed. Police say both of their diapers were soiled. They say the children were covered in feces and rashes.
They were placed with Child Protective Services while Penick was arrested later on the same day.
Penick was arraigned on those charges Thursday afternoon and given a $150,000 bond, no 10 percent and given no contact with the kids.
