Detroit photographer 'Camera Jesus' asks for help locating stolen gear

One of Detroit's most talented photographers, Camera Jesus (Joe Gall), is asking for your help after someone stole his camera bag filled with gear.

Gall posted on the Camera Jesus Facebook page that his Think Tank bag includes:

  • Canon 5Ds camera body
  • Canon 70-200mm 2.8 lens
  • Canon 24-70mm 2.8 lens
  • Canon11-24mm 4.0
  • Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro
  • Canon 35mm 1.4 and more

The break-in happened just near downtown Detroit while he was planning out his next project.

In broad daylight, on the corner of Fisher and 3rd just outside of the Detroit Antique Mall across from Cass Tech High School, someone busted Gall's car windows and took his camera bag, containing $15,000 worth of equipment he uses to showcase the city he loves.

While he says he knows better than to leave his camera gear in the back seat, he didn't plan on being long.

"It was just one of those one times where I'm going to be in and out, just to check the location, and that's all it took for them to smash my back window out and grab my bad," Gall said.

He said he is checking local pawn shops, Craigslist and Facebook marketplace but he's asking the public to keep their eyes open for any of the equipment for sale in the metro Detroit area.

A GoFundMe has been set up to raise money to get new gear, but he is also asking people to buy prints on his website, camerajesus.com.

Always coming back to you! 🛩#Detroit
