Two women reportedly raped on city's west side

Posted

There may be a possible break in the cases of serial gang rapes reported in Detroit.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested and Detroit police are searching for three additional suspects after two women were reportedly raped on the city's west side Wednesday night around 10 p.m.

"I thought we were going to die," one of the victims told 7 Action News.

The two victims, who are cousins, were sexually assaulted on the 15000 block of Strathmoor.

They were walking home from a corner store when the men, one armed with a gun, began to surround them.

The women were forced into the backyard of an abandoned home where they were robbed and raped at gunpoint.

Before the assailants fled on foot, they told the women to wait five minutes before getting up, telling them they were "killers."

Detroit police are investigating to determine if these rapes are connected to a series of sexual assaults that have taken place near the area since August.

In some of the previous cases, the women were raped while their boyfriends, or male companions, were forced to watch.

Anyone with any information on these rapes is urged to call Detroit Police Sex Crimes Unit at (313)596-1950.
