More than 30 new Detroit police officers were sworn in during a graduation ceremony on Friday, just days after two officers were shot and injured.

In all, 34 new officers are joining the force.

"I want to be a police officer because I'm from Detroit and I want to give back to the city," Officer Bryana Johnson said. "Detroit is the best city. It's up and coming and I'm so proud to be a part of it."

The new officers say their training has prepared them for the dangers of the job.

"I know they've instilled in us what we need to know to go out there and push through everything," Johnson added.

"The good, the bad, the ugly. I hope I'm prepared for most of it but either way I'm super excited to get to work. I'm ready to report for duty," Officer Branden Braxtresser said.
