DETROIT, MI (WXYZ) — Detroit Police were on the scene of two separate barricaded gunman situations on the city's west side this morning.

One was taking place on Vassar near Schaefer and the other on Santa Rosa near Cortland.

The incident on Vassar ended with the barricaded suspect being shot and killed, according to police.

"Very sad, tragic event," said Detroit Police Chief James White on the scene.

He said, "a lot of circumstances led us to where we are."

The situation was ongoing since 6:20 p.m. Saturday. The barricade allegedly started after an argument escalated between a 58-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman.

According to police, the man was shot twice during a struggle with people inside the home once a gun was produced. He reportedly was shot in the leg and then grazed by another bullet.

Two witnesses then reportedly left the home.

Police say the suspect then barricaded himself again and proceeded to assault the woman and pistol-whipped her during the barricaded situation, and after 13 hours of negotiation, officers were able to get the woman out of the home.

Officials say they heard another gunshot and then gassed the home after negotiations in an attempt to get him out peacefully, but he allegedly came out with a gun in hand and pointed it at one of the officers. An officer reportedly fired one shot, killing the man.

According to police, the suspect had a criminal history of robbery and violent assault offenses.

The investigation is ongoing.

On Santa Rosa near Cortland, Detroit Police say a woman was shot and killed, and the man accused of pulling the trigger was holed up inside a home.

Police responded to the scene for a call of shots fired around 2:35 a.m.

Police say it started as a party last night and a dispute elevated inside the home that led to the gunfire. The situation is over, because police said a drone was flown inside the home and they found the suspect has escaped.

That suspect is 23-year-old Keyon Field, who is considered armed and dangerous. Police say he is on probation for carrying a concealed weapon and has a number of bench warrants. They are looking for the suspect.
